The Whole Person
Dr. Rector and Southlake Integrative Wellness Center provide wellness-oriented, patient-centered, preventive care for the whole family. As an osteopathic physician, Dr. Rector assesses the whole person, including their physical, emotional, environmental, social, and spiritual conditions as well as lifestyle factors. He sees relationship with each patient as a partnership where together they establish and put into action health goals using conventional and integrative methods. Dr. Rector works to establish a unique plan for each individual patient to support health, resolve acute problems, and treat chronic illness.
The body is a wonderfully complex creation; each part is interdependent on the other. This is no truer than with our hormone system. We strive to bring into balance the major hormones of the body—thyroid, adrenal, and sex hormones—using bio-identical hormones. Furthermore, we do not rely totally on lab tests but also on our patients' symptoms to bring the hormones into balance. We utilize oral, topical (creams), and subcutaneous (under the skin) sustained released pellet therapy.
Nutritional IV Therapy
IV nutrient therapy is a way of getting vitamins, amino acids, minerals and other nutrients into the bloodstream quickly, thus bypassing the digestive system. This is a great benefit for those who have digestive issues or who can not tolerate oral supplementation. There are also times when the body is so deficient that oral supplementation is not enough. Administering nutrients intravenously allows for a maximum concentration of nutrients to reach tissues that need it the most.
Here at Southlake Integrative Wellness Center, we strive to create a peaceful environment for every patient. Our IV rooms are outfitted with reclining leather chairs, books, magazines, dimmed lights, blankets, and internet. Take time to relax and watch Planet Earth or check your email. With fresh tea, water and snacks, you will feel at home.
Ozone Therapy is a unique and integrative treatment that is used to increase the amount of oxygen in the body through the introduction of ozone into the body. This is achieved through the process known as autohemotherapy, in which blood is drawn from a patient, exposed to ozone and re-injected intravenously (directly into the vein). The effects are shown to be both healing and detoxifying with its main purpose of suppressing infection and boosting the immune system.
The history of Ozone Therapy dates back to the early 1950’s in Germany and has since gained recognition in the United States as more physicians are understanding its health benefits. Studies have shown that as part of an overall integrative treatment plan, it produces positive outcomes for treating a variety of conditions and illnesses such as chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic hepatitis, herpes, chemical sensitivities, macular degeneration, chronic bladder conditions, colitis, and Crohn’s disease.
Originally pioneered by William Garner Sutherland, DO in the 1930s and referred to as “Osteopathy in the Cranial Field” (OCF), craniosacral therapy is a holistic healing practice that uses very light touching to balance the craniosacral system in the body, which includes the bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area. Dr. Rector learned craniosacral therapy while in medical school, and after practicing it for 25 years, can attest to its overall health benefits.
Food + Environmental Testing
Dr. Rector uses several approaches for identifying sensitivities and allergies you may experience due to your food & environment, including the following: environment analysis, food/body journaling & IgG blood testing.
Bio-Energy™ Testing uses VO2/VCO2 analysis to measure mitochondrial function. The core principal behind maintaining health and avoiding disease is to have youthful mitochondrial function. It is in your cell’s mitochondria that oxygen is converted to energy by burning fat and sugar. This is the energy that keeps you alive and allows your body to function at an optimal level. Poor mitochondrial function is the root cause of fatigue, weight gain, disease, and even the process of aging itself.
Nutritional Coaching + Detoxification
For the body to be able to heal itself, Dr. Rector believes one must first remove the toxins & obstacles to health, and then restore the nutrients & friendly bacteria through fresh, whole (preferably organic) foods and probiotics. This belief is foundational to Dr. Rector's practice. Through nutritional coaching, Southlake Integrative Wellness Center seeks to guide patients through the detoxification and revitalization process.
Due to environmental toxins, many people experience toxic effects of heavy metals without even knowing it, until their body starts to tell them. Chelation therapy is the administration of chelation agents to remove heavy metals from the body. Chelation therapy has a long history of use in clinical toxicology.
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment
Osteopathic manipulative treatment, or OMT, was developed over 100 years ago by Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., D.O. (the "father of osteopathy"). It involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. When using OMT, Dr. Rector will move your muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure, and resistance.
"When appropriate, OMT can complement, and even replace, drugs or surgery. In this way, OMT brings an important dimension to standard medical care." - American Osteopathic Association
